Back from Amsterdam

So this past weekend we celebrated Jess´s 21st birthday in Amsterdam. I was relieved when I got there to get a break from Spain and the Spanish people and the Spanish language. I also found the Dutch to be much nicer than the Spanish which was also nice. We arrived on Friday night and immediately met up with Jess´s friend Ben and checked into our hostel, The Flying Pig. We got ready and headed out around 11:30. Wow were we mistaken when we thought things would be happening all night like Madrid. No in Amsterdam they eat at normal times and start their night early. We went to the Bulldog which is a chain in Amsterdam and they sell pot among other things. Beth smoked up for her first time and everyone else smoked as well. I, on the other hand, cannot smoke anything cause of my asthma so I very cautiously tried a "space cake". I only ate about a fourth of one. I didn´t feel anything. There is about .2 g in each cake. So we went to a bar and I had like 4 drinks and didn´t really feel anything. We called it a night.

The next day we had bagels (which I hadn´t had in over a month) and then went to the Anne Frank house. I had been there before but it was still a very moving experience. After that we met up with Ben and went and had more pot. I had another space cake....I ate half and then 2 hours ate the other half...again felt nothing. We walked around and did a little shopping. Then that night we went out and had Indonesian food (my third ethnic food of the week--I had Indian and Thai as well) and it was quite good. I was impressed. After that we went around looking for a coffee house but they only sold pot that you could smoke, not eat...so we went back to the Bulldog. Over the next 3 hours I would have 3 space cakes. Ben met up with us and we went back to the hostel since they had a bar there. We just hung out. Beth got me a chocolate cheesecake space cake...which I think is the one that made me sick the next day. When I went to bed I was definitely feeling something but I don´t know if I would call it high. The next day I woke up very lightheaded and nautious. Eventually the feeling faded and I was just exhausted. We went to the Van Gogh museum and then went to the airport to catch our flight--which I slept entirely through. So that was Amsterdam.

This week is going to be crazy. I am getting so stressed out with midterms that I think it is making me more home sick. Today I was thinking about how nice it would be to take all my work and camp out in Trexler library, and then to take the edge off go running with Casey, Marianne, and Julia...Hopefully Courtney coming on Friday will make me feel better. Talk to you all soon. I miss you terribly,
Un beso,
Beth
